"They just didn't understand," said Pearl Albert-Green, chairwoman of the Bedford Township Economic Development Corp. (EDC), which spearheaded the Temperance overlay and for more than 18 months has been working on one in Lambertville. "They thought we were going to try and make them do something they didn't want to do," Mrs. Albert-Green said. "We're still not going to shove them into taking an overlay if they don't want to."
But the EDC is going to pay $9,850 to have Ann Arbor-based consultants ENP & Associates undertake a months-long study of Lambertville.
That study, which got underway this week when ENP officials met with Mrs. Albert-Green, and township building and zoning officials, will mirror a 2002 study of Temperance.

"We'll have meetings as each thing goes on so that the people have a choice which way they want to go," Mrs. Albert-Green said.
If an overlay ends up being the result, so be it. If not, no sweat, she said. -
