Lawyer Ann Adlington is fighting to keep Everton within the city boundaries - Picture: Eddie Barford
    ...
IF anyone spotted a well-dressed woman in her 50s dashing across Stanley park shortly before 4pm yesterday, the chances are it was Ann Adlington.

Liverpool solicitor Ann was at Anfield for the annual Hillsborough memorial service before hot-footing it over to Goodison to see her beloved Everton take on Charlton Athletic.

Her commitment to the Hillsborough cause was once again evident, just as it was when she took on the British legal system on behalf of the families of the 96 in an 11-year-long battle through the country's courts.

But now she is ready for another battle, one which she feels has to be fought and one which she is ready and willing to lead.
    ...
Like many Evertonians, mum-of-one Ann, 55, from Walton, is dead against plans for the club to quit Goodison and move to a new site in Kirkby.

Ever the campaigner, she has put her misgivings into action as a leading light in the recently formed Keep Everton In Our City (KEIOC) group which is calling on Blues bosses to tear up the Kirkby plans and do whatever it takes to remain within the Liverpool city boundaries.

Ask her why she is ready to burn the midnight oil once again - she spends her days working as a commercial lawyer for Plexus Cotton - and her answer is as passionate as it is blunt.

"This is the most important issue in our club's history," she insists.
    ...
Ann, an Evertonian for more than 40 years, believes there is.

She says: "Like many fans, I firmly believe that where there is a will, there is a way.
    ...
And Ann certainly hasn't given up hope of Goodison being redeveloped either.

She says: "When (council leader) Warren Bradley spoke to KEIOC members he told us that he had council officers exploring the possibility of extending the footprint at Goodison in a way that would enable some more commercial activities.

"He suggested that a hotel could be built on any new development at Goodison. He also stated that the council owned the school and most of the properties in Bullens Road.

"As to those people who will ask where the money is going to come from, I would say, 'Give us, the people, a shares issue'."

Blues chairman Bill Kenwright has promised to meet with KEIOC to discuss its concerns, so what will Ann be telling him?
