Robert R. Adley, president of Pelican Gas Management, performs gas pricing and purchasing for the city through the Louisiana Municipal Gas Authority. He said there could be a potential low in the next few days that could help the city attain its target price below $12 per million British thermal units.

But the chance of prices going back to last year's average of $8 to $8.50 is unlikely, Adley said.

The Shreveport Times reported Wednesday that Senate Bill 528, by Senator Robert Adley (D) Benton, would give special dispensation to Shreveport resident Gus Mijalis (and possibly others), allowing Mijalis to sell seafood to casinos.
    ...
It is ironic that Senator Adley (D) Benton, would go to such great lengths in authoring a bill to help out a convicted felon, when Adley refused to author a simple local bill for Benton families who wanted to be able to vote on whether or not a video poker casino truck stop was going to be allowed to locate near two of Benton's schools and several neighborhoods.Perhaps if the citizens and families of Benton who pleaded for Adley's help had been convicted felons, Senator Adley would have jumped at the chance to write legislation of their behalf. One can only speculate.

Robert Adley, R-Benton, a frequent critic of the Jindal administration, questions the necessity of Sunday meetings with officials.

Robert Adley of Benton switched parties Monday.

"I just think it puts me in a better position to help my constituents," Adley said of joining the Republican Party.

"For me to be useful in the process, this is the best thing I can do," he said.

Republican Bobby Jindal will become governor on Jan. 14, replacing Democrat Kathleen Blanco.

"Looking at the Senate, we need to be more bipartisan, and this will make it more balanced," said Adley, who lost out on a bid to become Senate president in the Jindal administration.

Adley said he decided to switch to the GOP before he knew of McCrery's plans.

He said running for the U.S. Congress is "an option."

Congressional elections are in fall 2008.

Adley, who was elected in 2003, has served longer than any of his north Louisiana colleagues currently in the Senate.

He previously was elected to the state House of Representatives.Under former Gov.Buddy Roemer, a Republican, Adley was the House Appropriations Committee chairman and a floor leader.
    ...
Adley said he was a conservative Democrat. As a legislator, he said, he pushed many of the initiatives Jindal is currently advocating, such as changing the state's tax and spending policies.

His switch to the GOP will not change the kind of legislator he has always been, Adley said.

"The difference is perception only," said Adley."The world has changed. If you have a ,D' behind your name, many people don't think you can speak from a conservative side."

Adley said he did not switch parties to affect prospects of a Senate leadership position.

"Those decisions are over," he said.

It's a shame it's occurred this way," says Louisiana District 36 Senator Robert Adley, "shouldn't have happened this way at all, should of been pretty simple and just move forward. But that's what happens sometimes in Baton Rouge."

Senator Adley championed Act 326 of 2008, along with Senator Robert Shaw and others, which was signed by Governor Jindal back in June - but only after a compromise.

Adley says it will be up to them: "The law says you're not supposed to, but by question to the Department of Revenue: What's the penalty? Well, there IS no penalty.

Robert Adley and political newcomer Tyler Nezat are vying for control of the Louisiana Senate District 36 seat.
    ...
A win for Adley, 60, would mean a second term.

For each candidate, both of Benton, education, health care and ethics reform are among the important issues facing District 36 - which encompasses all of Bienville and Webster parishes and parts of Bossier, Claiborne and Red River parishes.

Tax reform tops Nezat's list for changes to implement if he is elected senator.
    ...
Adley, president of Pelican Gas Management Inc., previously served as a Bossier City councilman at-large in addition to terms in the state House of Representatives and the state Senate.

To understand Adley's plans for the future, he said, it's important to know about his first-term accomplishments.

Among the most critical things Adley cited are legislation for improving colleges in the Louisiana Community and Technical College System and rural health-care facilities and his support of funding for Cyber Command.

"My office got the initial commitment for $50 million from the state," Adley said of Cyber Command."It was a huge boost to our area."

If elected, Adley's goals include continuing to ensure quality health care is maintained in District 36 and supporting LSU Health Sciences Center and first responders, including EMS, police and firefighters, he said.

The development of a skilled work force also is critical, Adley said.
    ...
"My goal is to set the standard for ethics in the nation by adding to Louisiana's existing laws," Adley said, "complete sunshine in the state budgeting process and income disclosure for elected officials that does not deter good people from seeking elective office."

    Miss a day.Miss a lot.
