Peter Adler, Israel director for the Pratt Foundation, said the inspiration for the event came 18 months ago when the Australian recycling and packaging billionaire Richard Pratt was visiting the city.

"He went for a stroll along the Tel Aviv beachfront and he was disgusted at the amount of rubbish he saw there, so he decided to try and introduce the Australian idea of a clean-up to Israel," Mr Adler said.
