Adams , a PGA Master Professional , is celebrating his 20th year as head professional at historic Ridgewood , which hosts the 62nd Senior PGA Championship , May 24-27.

This club has had many special things and special people through its history , said Adams , who earned PGA Master Professional status in 1988.It's exciting to have the world focus in on Ridgewood this year and have the best players see it.The course will handle this major championship very well and there's even something new this time.We will have a composite course that will better handle spectators and serve as a great challenge for the players..

The 1990 U.S. Senior Open was the last major championship conducted at the course , and utilized the Center and West nine-hole layouts.The Senior PGA Championship features a first-time composite , par-72 , 6 , 904-yard layout in which seven holes from the Center nine , three from the East and eight from the West will be used.

A native of Sylacauga , Ala. , Adams attended the University of Alabama from 1972 to 1975 , earning a degree in public relations.During that time , Alabama star Jerry Pate won the U.S. Amateur in 1974 at The Ridgewood Country Club.

I wasn't good enough to make the team , but I did want to stay in golf after ( Alabama Coach ) Conrad Rehling got me involved in teaching , Adams said.He is a great PGA Professional and inspired me..

Rehling , who won the 1992 Horton Smith Trophy for his contribution to PGA education , is regarded as one of the premier golf instructors of the physically challenged.

Adams began serving as assistant professional at Green Valley Country Club in Hoover , Ala. , in 1976.He later worked at the Birmingham ( Ala. ) Country Club , at Baton Rouge ( La. ) Country Club , and at Bethesda ( Md. ) Country Club.He was elected to PGA membership in 1979.
