David L. Acton to Receive the 2004 SAE Delco Electronics Intelligent Transportation Systems Award

David L. Action Warrendale, PA (February 16, 2005) - David L. Acton, Vice-President of Ygomi LLC, has been selected to receive the 2004 SAE Delco Electronics Intelligent Transportation Systems Award. Acton, along with one other recipient, will be presented with the award at the Honors Convocation during the SAE 2005 World Congress in Detroit, Michigan, April 2005.

This award recognizes the profound impact that Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) will have on mobility in the 21st century. Established in 1996, it distinguishes an individual or team whose outstanding technical accomplishment is judged to have significantly advanced state-of-the-art ITS. It may also recognize the author or authors of the best paper relating to the invention, design, construction, or operation of vehicle-related equipment or systems operating within an ITS context.

In April of 2004, Acton retired from General Motors and started Charter Mobile Information Inc., a company dedicated to advancing the new telematics or "connected vehicle" industry worldwide.

In January 2005, Acton became a Vice-President of Ygomi LLC. Ygomi is an international company working on strategies to improve vehicle safety and utility. They are doing this through the development of advanced vehicle electrical architectures, new vehicle data strategies, and enhanced vehicle communications capabilities. In addition to his role for Ygomi LLC, Acton is President of AMI-C (the Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration), a Board member of ITS-America, and a Board member of CTEA (the Convergence Transportation Electronics Association).

Acton's last position at General Motors was Director of Global Telematics; Acton and his team helped develop the company's global telematics strategy. Formerly, he was Chief Vehicle Engineer of OnStar. At OnStar, his group was responsible for launching factory installed telematics products and services. Acton came to OnStar in 1998 from GM's North American Vehicle Operations where he had been the Director of Electrical Engineering. In this role, he was responsible for advanced electrical/electronics product and process direction for GM, including global harmonization. Prior to 1997, he held a number of assignments in Electrical Engineering, including Chief Electrical Engineer for Cadillac Motor Division, Director of Electrical Engineering for the Luxury Car Group and Director of Electrical Engineering for the Midsize and Luxury Car Groups.

Acton holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Michigan.
