On behalf of the Gateway School Board of Trustees, it is my honor to announce that Percy L. Abram, Ph.D., has been hired as Gateway School's Head of School, beginning July, 2008.Dr. Abram will take over after the retirement of our current Head of School, David Peerless.

Percy was chosen from a competitive field of candidates in a nationwide search.He is currently the Upper Division Director at Brentwood School, a K-12 independent school in West Los Angeles.In this capacity, Percy has oversight responsibility for more than 60 faculty members and nearly 500 students.Percy had earlier served as the Dean of Students for Brentwood's Middle Division.Prior to this, he was Director of Multicultural Services for Menlo School in Atherton.Percy also has more than 5 years experience as a classroom teacher, teaching Spanish I and II, and Race and Ethnic Relations.Percy has a BA in Economics and an MA in Education from UCLA as well as an MA in Sociology and a PhD in Sociology of Education from Stanford University.
Percy has a true passion for education and a genuine appreciation and understanding of the developmental approach that is the heart of Gateway School.His impressive pedagogical background is supplemented by a wealth of experiences that will serve him well at the helm of Gateway School.Everyone who has worked with Percy offered extensive praise and admiration for him as an educator and a man of kindness and integrity.
We are excited to welcome Percy and his family to the Santa Cruz community and to our school.

Over the next several months, our Transition Committee and David will work to help prepare Percy and his family for their move to Santa Cruz and for a smooth and supported entry into his new role at Gateway School.
