BID President Robert Abdella invited McNulty to attend the meeting 'to get him to know us and know what our goals are.'
'There's not much federal funding,' Fulton County Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Wally Hart said. 'We wanted him to be aware of what our needs are.'
McNulty said he's familiar with the struggles smaller cities face. He worked for 13 years as a supervisor and mayor in a small town.
He told BID members Gloversville isn't the only community seeing reductions in population and business. He said it's happening across the state.
'It's not that we are going to try to survive. We are going to survive,' McNulty said.
'We are striving to make this historic district something we may all be proud of,' Abdella said.
Hart said the BID wanted to know if funding is available at the federal level.
Abdella said the BID was unsuccessful in obtaining a state grant.
McNulty's office can help BID find funding, the congressman said.
'We want to take advantage of his experience to make sure we are on track,' Abdella said.
Members of the BID toured the downtown with McNulty following the meeting.
Abdella said meeting with McNulty was ' a very positive force for us today.'
'I've always felt continued success depends on coordinating our activities with government,' he said. 'Even though we finance our activities with our own money, many improvements cannot be achieved without city cooperation.'
