    AHMED ABDALLAH

    Ahmed Abdallah was born on June 12 , 1919 in Domoni , Anjouan , in a noble family. He frequents Majunga ( Madagascar's ) regional School , until the third year , and returns to Anjouan. The family possesses lands and people , he becomes an owner , a producer of vanilla t and a buisinessman. It is later that he enters politics. Considerably influential in Anjouan , in 1946 , he is elected to the General Council , and becomes its president in 1949. He was , that time , thirty years only. It is as such that he goes for the first time to France in 1951 to support the superior Administrator of the territory who went to present the demands of the General Council. He ) will be reelected to the territorial Assembly until 1973.

    Ahmed Abdallah becomes also President of the Chamber of the Representatives on April 2 , 1970 as a replacement of Prince Saïd Ibrahim who takes the function of President of the council of Government after Saïd Mohamed Cheikh's death. But the elections of June 6 provoke a change in the majority , and Ahmed Abdallah loses his president's seat. He keeps all the same his senator's post. On December 22 , 1972 , after the vote of censure against prince Saïd Ibrahim , the territorial Assembly appoints him as President of the council of the Government with , as a mandate , to negotiate the accession of the Comoro Islands to independence in the friendship and cooperation with France. He resigns from his senator's post from January , 1973.

    After the failure of the 1973 Agreements and the equivocations of the consequent colonial authorities in the referendum of 1974 , Ahmed Abdallah , as President of the council of government proclaims the independence of the Comoro Islands on July 6 , 1975. The Mayotte Popular Movement ( MPM ) takes advantage of this situation to declare the affection of the island to France.

    Exiled in France for three years , Ahmed Abdallah becomes , in December 1978 , the first President of Federal Islamic Republic of Comoros and he will remain as such until November 1989 when he dies in his Moroni residence in unprecise circumstances.
