Pat Abbott was reared in West Texas, primarily Lubbock.He attended Texas Tech University on a baseball scholarship, receiving a bachelor's degree in English/Physical Education in 1968 and a Master of Education Degree along with mid-management and superintendence certification in 1979.

Pat has spent 31 years in education teaching, coaching, and in administration as a principal and assistant superintendent.Pat also worked with the Texas Association of School Boards and was instrumental in developing the first cash management programs for the independent school districts of Texas.From teaching Sunday school, to singing in choirs, to being a deacon and even being in the pulpit twice, Pat has been an active member of churches all of his life.He has been a member of Riverbend Church for over 14 years and has served as the Chairperson of the Deacons, and is in the choir.Pat joined the Riverbend administration team and was ordained in February 2000."To get out of the way of staff members so that they can do their job in carrying out the missions of Riverbend in the most creative environment possible is my main focus here."
