    Marguerite Abbott received her professional diploma from the Boston School of Occupational Therapy, Boston, Massachusetts, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University. She received her Master of Arts degree and professional certificate in university administration from Columbia University. She completed a postgraduate course in the treatment of cerebral palsy at the Children's Rehabilitation Institute, under the direction of Dr. Winthrop Phelps. She was also a teaching fellow in human dissection at the School of Occupational Therapy, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University.

    Professor Abbott was a member of the faculty of medicine, Occupational Therapy, at Columbia for many years in the capacity of director, administrator, writer, and teacher. On the 25th anniversary of Columbia's Occupational Therapy School, the alumni awarded a Certificate of Recognition to her for her creative administration, teaching, and outstanding leadership in the clinical and educational fields. She had more than forty publications, some of which have worldwide coverage in three languages. She was a recognized authority, nationally and internationally, in professional education.

    Her clinical experience included many years of directorships in the fields of pediatrics, administration, and physical dysfunction, together with clinical and university teaching.

    Internationally, she was a member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and served on the Expert Advisory Committee of that organization. She spent many years as a consultant-teacher abroad and organized graduate courses for teaching at the Aistley-Ainsley Rehabilitation Hospital, Edinburgh, Scotland. She was a well-known lecturer, both here and abroad, in occupational therapy education and cerebral palsy.
