Adrian Abbott, marketing services manager at BC Tree Fruits, said the cherry market is stronger than all other tree-fruit markets."Production is up around 20% and prices are higher than usual," he said.
The apricot harvest in the Okanagan Valley is just beginning and in a couple weeks workers will be picking peaches, then nectarines, said Mr. Abbott.
"Pricing is probably going to be average on peaches and nectarines, stronger on prune plums," said Mr. Abbott.
"The apple season just finished, so we've just finished selling last year's crop.It was one of the better years."
BC Tree Fruits sold four million boxes of apples from the 2001 harvest, down 10% from 2000.But because apple trees load up on fruit every two years, Mr. Abbott said he is expecting a larger crop this year.
