Georges Van Den Abbeele is director of both the Davis Humanities Institute and the newly-established Pacific Regional Humanities Center at the University of California at Davis , where he also teaches as Professor of French and Humanities. Author of Travel as Metaphor ( Minnesota , 1992), he has also translated Jean-Francois Lyotard's The Differend, Postmodern Fables and Enthusiasm. He is the co-editor with Brenda Schildgen of A World of Fables (Pacific View Press, 2003) and co-editor with Tyler Stovall of French Civilization and its Discontents: Nationalism, Colonialism, Race (Rowman and Littlefield, 2003). He is currently working on theories of national identity with particular attention to the case of Belgium . -
