About Candyce Ewing Abbatt
...
Why is Candyce Ewing Abbatt so actively involved in numerous civic, charitable and professional pursuits?
"I suppose it's a sense of responsibility I inherited from my parents who always have led by example," says Candyce.
"If either viewed a program worthwhile and beneficial, they felt it a duty to volunteer time and energy to help make it or keep it successful."
Thus, her upbringing helps to explain why Candyce contributes so much of her talent and effort to helping maintain a quality library service during a time when budget sacrifices are the norm in city government.
A CITY COMMISSIONER
It all began in the mid 1990's when then City Librarian Pat Coady began recruiting Candyce for membership on the Dearborn Public Library Commission.

With layoffs pending, discussions on closing the Bryant Branch Library heating up and other facilities needing upgrades, Candyce accepted the challenge.
