During a question and answer session Tuesday night at Fruit Cove Middle School, the new "DDD" school principal, Paul Abbatinozzi, tried to calm those fears and give the more than 200 parents who turned out a better idea of what the school will be like.
While he couldn't specifically promise there will be a marching band or a state championship-winning sports team, the principal assured parents there will be a "full complement" of academics, extracurricular activities and sports when the school opens next August.

Abbatinozzi told her that, while the school may not have an athletic edge the first year, students can still get the experience and life lessons that many enjoy in sports participation.

Abbatinozzi said about 1,100 ninth- through eleventh-graders are zoned for the school for next year, and DDD has a capacity for about 1,500 students. It was built to ease crowding at Bartram Trail, the largest school in St. Johns County.
Abbatinozzi said the new high school will offer two academies to start out with: an information technology academy and an environmental and urban planning academy.
And as for the school's identity, contrary to rumors, he assured parents that no one has decided on a school name, school colors or school mascot.
