Enrique Abadia, Finance Manager
Enrique Abadia was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. In 1964, he moved to New York City where he met his wife and started his family. Despite living the "American dream" and having a good job with IBM, Enrique felt led to return to Colombia to work in a World Vision orphanage as the director. While doing this work, he studied to become a pastor through long-distance education in Costa Rica and became the pastor of a growing church in Bogota.
In 1991, Enrique and Merci returned to USA to be closer to their growing family, as their first grandbaby was born. They both became American citizens and settled down close to family. Here, he worked in various capacities, finally retiring from Banner of Truth in 2005. Although retired, Enrique is not bored! He continues his relationship with Banner of Truth as a volunteer translator/office assistant, he translates for prisoners, is a chaplain for Spanish-speaking patients, preaches when pastors go on vacation for much-needed breaks, and volunteers as a bookkeeper for Ashar Management and Consulting.
Enrique became the Finance Director for American Foundation for Children with AIDS in May 2005. He resides in Carlisle, PA with his wife of 40 years, Mercedes. -
