James Harold Aase, 79, SERVICES: Memorial service 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Palo, with the Rev. Brian Birk officiating.Visitation one hour prior to service.Inurnment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.Arrangements are by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.

James Harold Aase, 79, of Bass Lake died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 3, 1924, in Virginia to Harold and Georgia (Thurman) Aase.He graduated from Biwabik High School in 1942 and joined the Army Air Corps 9th Air Force, where he was a captain.He flew C-46 and C-47 troop transport aircraft in Europe as well as many dangerous glider missions.He was awarded the Air Medal four times for meritorious service and the Presidential Unit Citation.After the war he attended Virginia Junior College and later graduated from Florida State University with a degree in geology.He married Marilyn R. Miller on May 12, 1956.He had worked for Pickands Mather, and retired after 30 years of service with the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Mines in 1986.
After retirement Jim and his wife built a new home on the old Aase farm on Bass Lake.Jim especially enjoyed the peace and quiet of the old homestead and enjoyed the efforts he put in to making the place special.He was especially fond of his two daughters and their families.His grandchildren were special to him and he was special to them.He will be sadly missed.
