   Mike Aaronson has 35 years practical experience of public and international affairs, initially as a humanitarian relief worker in Eastern Nigeria, next for 16 years as a diplomat, and then for 17 years with Save the Children UK from which he retired as chief executive in 2005 and where he gained direct experience of running a complex international business which he represented at the highest levels to government, in the media and elsewhere.Mike now holds a number of senior non-executive and advisory appointments in the not-for-profit sector including as Chairman of Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Chairman of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, Geneva.He is also a Civil Service Commissioner, appointed by the Crown to regulate appointments into the UK Civil Service.He is a visiting Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford and was awarded a CBE in 2000 and a knighthood in 2006.

   Mike's career has been half in HM Diplomatic Service and half at Save the Children, where he was overseas director and subsequently, from 1995-2005, chief executive.Since 2001 he has been Chairman of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, a Geneva-based private foundation working in conflict mediation.He is also a Non-Executive Director of Oxford Policy Management Limited, a development consultancy, and Vice Chair of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.In May 2007 he became a Civil Service Commissioner, appointed by the Crown to maintain the principle of fair and open recruitment to the Civil Service.He is also a Visiting Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford, and works both with NATO and the UK Ministry of Defence on civil/military collaboration in conflict situations.In June 2006 Mike was knighted for services to children.
