Andy entered the Navy on 7 July 1978 in Jamestown, North Dakota, at the ripe old age of 22. He attended Boot Camp in San Diego and went on to Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut. He then attended Class "A" and "C" and Tender Schools in Dan Neck, Virginia, leaving there for his first ship in 1980 as a Third Class Missile Technician. Can you believe they sent this "Unqualified Bubblehead" to a Tender!! While on the Tender, USS CANOPUS, homeported in Charleston, SC, they sent him to PORI IDAS School in California to learn how to convert tactical missiles to test missiles and to install and maintain the associated tracking and test equipment. Andy transferred from there in 1982 and went to the USS KAMAMAHA (SSBN 642) in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. Following overhaul, Sea Trials, DASO and some patrols, he transferred in 1985 to the Naval Ordnance Test Unit in Cocoa Beach, FL where he was converting missiles and supporting DASO's for ships completing overhaul, and for the new OHIO Class Boats. This was a very rough tour of duty. Ha! Ha! The ever intelligent Detailer then sent him from this primo duty to the USS HOLLAND in Charleston, SC in 1989 where he served as the PORI Shop LPO until his transfer to TRIDENT II Conversion School in Kings Bay, GA in 1991. Upon graduation in August 91, Andy reported to the New Construction Crew on the USS NEBRASKA in Groton, CT. He completed new construction and brought her out thru DASO, STRAT Load Out, and then transferred in June 1995 after serving as the MT LPO for the last two years on the Gold Crew. His next tour was at the TRIDENT Refit Facility as LPO of the Missile Fire Control Shop, a job he still holds and will be performing until his retirement in May 1998.

Andy is married to the lovely Kimberly Stelma Aanderud formerly of San Jose, California and they have a four year old son Shawn Thomas and a fourteen year old daughter Stephanie Eve.

Andy has been involved with SUBVETS since 1991 when he joined the Groton Chapter while in the Shipyard. When he transferred to Kings Bay, he remained a member in Groton until Shipmate Tommy Denton introduced him to the local Chapter. The first Trident Chapter Shipmate he met was George Sheer! What an awakening! Since then he has been an extremely active member of our Trident Chapter and a key player in combining our two organizations into one Chapter. Andy is a Past Base Commander and Vice Commander of the TRIDENT Chapter here at Kings Bay. He served as Dist. 4 CDR 1998-1999.

Andy retired in May, 98, and went to work for GDDS until Dec. 1999. He then worked for EB until Dec 2000, then he moved on to Lockheed as the SQD 20 Tech Rep/Field Engineer.
