   On Monday, September 11, Governor Jesse Ventura appointed Don Aandal and Kurt Marben to fill two vacancies in Marshall and Polk counties.

   Aandal is the managing attorney and first assistant chief public defender in the Ninth Judicial District Public Defender's office in Thief River Falls. He has been a full-time attorney in the public defender's office since 1994 and was a part-time assistant Ninth Judicial District public defender from 1988 to 1994. Aandal was an assistant Pennington County Attorney in Thief River Falls in 1988 and a solo practitioner in Thief River Falls from 1984 to 1987. Aandal earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Dakota Law School in Grand Forks, N.D. in 1984 and his bachelor of arts degree from Moorhead State University in 1981.
   
   Aandal is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the State Public Defenders Association. He is on the State Public Defender Training Committee and serves on the Interactive TV Committee. He is also a volunteer firefighter for the Thief River Falls Fire Department.
   
   The vacancy that Aandal will fill occurred with the retirement of the Honorable Larry Jorgenson on May 31, 2000. The Minnesota Supreme Court certified the continuation of the judgeship for the city of Warren in Marshall County. Aandal, 41, was born in Thief River Falls and grew up in Marshall County. He lives in Thief River Falls with his wife Diane and their three children, Katie, Madeline and Christian.
