Lebanese Student Association president, Pauline Aad, speaks about being an international student at OSU in a post Sept. 11 America.
...
Pauline Aad, an animal breeding and reproduction graduate student and president of the Lebanese Student Association, said as she tried to connect to the Internet from her home in Lebanon - unaware of what was going on in the U.S. - she called her Internet provider to ask why the Internet wasn't working.
The employee who answered the phone told her it wasn't the company's fault this time - an excuse she had heard many times.
"He said, ‘Put the LBC on,' which is the local Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation," said Aad. "As soon as I put it on, I was like, ‘Oh, my God,' and he said, ‘Exactly.'"
What caused Aad's reaction were the images she saw of the World Trade Center with smoke billowing from the buildings.
"Honestly, in my area in Lebanon, it was very unbelievable," Aad said.
