Arc Flash Training - South Africa & Middle East
Zarheer Jooma is our resident arc flash safety specialist in South Africa.
In addition to presenting the e-Hazard suite for arc flash safety and related training, Zarheer Jooma is a professionally registered electrical engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa and the custodian of electrical arc flash safety standards with the South African Bureau of Standards. His notable achievement is the resident chairman and convenor of SANS 724:2010 Personal protective equipment and personal protective clothing against the thermal hazards of an electric arc. SANS 724 is the first and currently only South African standard dedicated to electrical arc flash safety. Arc Flash Safety Training Our South African office, managed by Zarheer Jooma, offers the following services: About Zarheer Jooma Mr. Zarheer Jooma (Pr. Eng) graduated from the University of Natal - South Africa in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He began his career at Eskom Generation (South African Power Utility) where he was involved in surge mitigation, low and medium voltage reticulation systems and the optimization of the 275kV control systems. He then joined ArcelorMittal Group (Largest Global Steel Producer) and has worked on transformers, switchgear, cabling, power system design and protection systems. He now uses his accumulated knowledge on electrical systems to specialise in the field of electrical arc flash safety. This includes specifications for internally arc proof electrical apparatus, safe operating practices, maintenance routines and personal protective equipment for electrical safety. Zarheer is a registered Professional Electrical Engineer who is also the convener of the South African National Standard for Protective Equipment against the Thermal Hazards of an Electric Arc; SANS 724. This is the first South African standard exclusively addressing Electrical Arc Flash Safety. In 2008, Zarheer teamed up with e-Hazard and ArcWear under the auspices of Hugh Hoagland who is an international authority on testing and consulting services to manufacturers of personal protective equipment used for protection against electrical arc flash incidents. Zarheer has spoken at various conferences and maintains a strong presence at the SABS working committees. He is a member of the SABS SC67E committee and the IEC TC78 - Live Working committee.
