Dr. Yvon Martel, who retired from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) in December 2011, was one of seven personalities recognized this year by Laval University for their profound impact in their respective fields.
Laval University, on June 17 2012 bestowed upon Dr. Martel a doctorate - honoris causa, for his exceptional contribution as researcher, manager and chief scientist, international, for the Research Branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

Dr. Martel is well known to AAFC staff for his leadership as Director General, Eastern Region, 1987-2002 and Chief scientist of the International Scientific Cooperation Bureau from 2003 to 2011 and as the coordinator of the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Research Branch in 2011.
