Dr. Yvon Martel holds a B.Sc. in agronomy from Laval University and a Ph.D. in soil science from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.
has Certificates from the University Queenâ€™s Executive Program, Canada and on â€˜Making Corporate Boards more Effectiveâ€™ from Harvard University
He started in 1972 a scientific career with the Science and Technology Branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) as a soil scientist and subsequently as director of Research Centres , Director General for Eastern Canada and Chief Scientist, international.
retired in 2011 and is a speaker on agriculture science management and an independent review expert for the European Commission
Dr. Martel has a long experience in agricultural science management in Canada and internationally.
developed partnerships with industries, universities, different levels of government and institutions of several countries.
He was the Director of a Potato Research Project in Brazil and the Chair of the Governing Body of the OECD Co-operative Research Program.
was invited university professor in Canada, Morocco and awarded Honorary Professor of three Chinese universities
earned several distinctions nationally and internationally including Gold Harvest Award
for outstanding career achievements from AAFC, a Doctorate Honoris Causa from Laval University, the â€˜Knight of the Order of Agricultural Meritâ€™ from the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of France and the â€˜Friendship Awardâ€™ given by the Chinese Government to foreign experts for outstanding contribution to the development of China.
