Reader in Music
Yo Tomita (b.1961) graduated from the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo specialising in piano and completed an MMus in performance at Leeds University and thereafter PhD in musicology.He first joined the staff at Queen's in March 1995 as Research Fellow.He was reappointed as Lecturer in 2000, and was promoted to Reader in 2001.In 2002, he spent his time in the Riemenschneider Bach Institute in Ohio as the Martha Goldsworthy Arnold Fellow.
He has research interests in Bach Studies (in particular the Well-Tempered Clavier II), the pedagogical aspects of piano education, text-critical analysis using Artificial Intelligence techniques, manuscript studies, and the development of computer software and tools for musicology.His musicological font, Bach, is widely used among academics all over the world.
Having completed a series of critical commentaries on WTC II (for which the third volume is forthcoming), he is currently working on two-volume monograph for Ashgate Publishing and a revised edition for Henle.He also maintains the on-line Bach Bibliography on the World-Wide-Web.
