PRESS RELEASE: Charlotte Based Investment Bank EquitAbility to Help Fund the Work of Worldwide AIDS Coalition in Africa
www.prweb.com, 5 Dec 2004 [cached]
Dr. William Wiley, Chairman and CEO of EquitAbility stated:"The time for corporate America to realize the need for a stabilized African continent is now.22 Million orphans look to our part of the globe to provide assistance, and we cannot turn our back on so many, when help is within our grasp.Dr. Wiley also called on other corporations, and those involved within their companies who provide direction in corporate social responsibility to join the Worldwide AIDS Coalition to meet the challenge of what has been called the Holocaust of the twenty-first century.
(PRWEB) December 5, 2004 -- The Board of Directors of EquitAbility, LLC -- a Charlotte based Investment Bank which is involved in middle market strategies particularly in the medical and healthcare industry, voted Friday to make distributions of cash available to the Worldwide AIDS Coalition.
The Worldwide AIDS Coalition is a nonprofit coalition of doctors, researchers, volunteers, advocates, and healthcare professionals dedicated to the cause of making antiretroviral treatment available to patients suffering with AIDS in Africa.
The move was seen as a unique move in the financial services industry, which traditionally eschews involvement with developing countries and in endeavors where no clear paths to revenues or profits exist.Dr. Wiley stated that the reason he had led the board of his investment bank to make this bold move was "to show the world that there are those who are involved in banking, especially in investment banking, who are guided by a desire to help their fellow man, and to do good in the world."Many of the recent scandals of Wall Street involved the unscrupulous actions of investment bankers who had made decisions which had negatively impacted the market, the fortunes of those who had trusted their advice, and the futures of many thousands of retirees whose money had been squandered in intricately designed plans to defraud, and deceive.
Dr. William Wiley, Chairman and CEO of EquitAbility stated: "The time for corporate America to realize the need for a stabilized African continent is now.22 Million Orphans look to our part of the globe to provide assistance, and we cannot turn our back on so many, when help is within our grasp.Dr. Wiley pointed out to the board of EquitAbility that "One person dies from an AIDS related illness every 8 seconds in Africa...even though the cost of treating many of these patients could be as low as seventy-five cents a day."
Dr. Wiley acknowledged the good work that many corporations are already doing, such as Pfizer\\\'s donation of Difulcan, an anti-infective medication, and Federal Expresses stated intentions to help with shipping of medications."With the Worldwide AIDS Coalition we have a nonprofit vehicle to operate through which provides a feasible model to help."The Worldwide AIDS Coalition already has clinics on the ground in Uganda, Burundi, Burkina Faso, and has been invited to establish the same types of clinics in Ethiopia, one of Africa's poorest nations.
Dr. Wiley also called on other corporations, and those involved within their companies who provide direction in corporate social responsibility to join the Worldwide AIDS Coalition to meet the challenge of what has been called the Holocaust of the twenty-first century.
