William H. Stone, Jr., First Vice President Bill Stone joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia in 1971. He has served in various capacities in both the supervisory/regulatory and operations sides of the Bank. In 1984, he was promoted to senior vice president in charge of payment operations.
In this position he was responsible for all Third District cash, check, and electronic payment activities. In 1987, Stone was appointed first vice president and chief operating officer of the Bank.
Stone is a native of Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania where he received a bachelor's degree in economics. He is also a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, from which he received a master's degree in business administration. He has been an instructor at several national banking schools and local colleges. He has also served as a director of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and on several boards as an officer or trustee. Currently, he is a director of the PENJERDEL Council, which focuses on issues of importance to the Delaware Valley Region and a trustee of the Evergreens, a New Jersey continuing care retirement community, where he chairs the finance committee. He is a frequent spokesperson on national and regional economic matters and has consulted with foreign central banks in the World Bank.
