On May 28th, the Buckhead Heritage Society and the Atlanta History Center co-hosted Abraham Lincoln: How His Faith Shaped Policy presented by Billy Peebles, Headmaster at the Lovett School.
Peebles highlighted specific examples of when his faith played an important role in his decision-making, including his decision to emancipate the slaves during the Civil War. Peebles is in his 10th year as Headmaster at the Lovett School and has taught history and the humanities for 32 years. He has also written extensively and lectured on Abraham Lincoln. Peebles is currently a member of the Board of Trustees at Virginia Episcopal School, the Breakthrough Atlanta Board of Advisors, the Board of Trustees for the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Education, and the Board of Trustees for the W.E. B. Du Bois Society. Peebles received an AB in Politics from Princeton University, an MBA from the Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia, and has done graduate work at Virginia Theological Seminary.
