William David Pingree Sr. , 44
Except for a brief period of time while attending college , Bill
had been a lifelong resident of Quincy.
...Bill had a dream after receiving his master's degree of becoming an author and was just recently able to obtain this goal with the publishing of SuperCrip a novel depicting his life exploits
.He is a former probation officer , serving the residents of Plumas County for 17 years
.He had been a long-standing member of the Quincy Lions Club
is a graduate of Quincy High School
and went on to attend Yuba Community College transferring to U.C. Davis.He
graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology and while there along with Ed Roberts was instrumental in the formation and implementation of the American Disabilities Act.He received a master's degree in English from San_Francisco State University in January of 1978
.Bill was an avid chess player who received a master status this past year
.Never did a day go by that Bill
did not play a game of chess.Although Bill
was born with severe physical handicaps , this never deterred him from achieving his
goals and dreams.He
was an inspiration to all that came in contact with him.Bill asked that his
final epitaph read When I was alive I was a funny guy and now I am dead serious. Bill is survived by his
son , William A. Jacks III ; and a host of friends and acquaintances.Following cremation , a celebration of his
life was held Saturday , March 3 , at the Quincy Community United Methodist Church
.Private inurnment will take place along-side his
family in the Old Quincy Cemetery.The family requests any donations in his
memory be made to any favorite charity of the donor's choice.

, 44 , died at the Mercy Medical Center
in Redding , Calif. , on Monday , Feb.26 , 2001.He
was born in Susanville , Calif. on Oct.5 , 1956 , and had been a resident of Lassen County
for 35 years.He worked as a cook for the Grand Cafe for two years
is survived by his
son , William D. Pingree Jr. , father and step-mother David and Glennys Pingree ; two brothers , Mitchell Pingree and Randel Walter and sister Kristina Walter.Bill was preceded in death by his
mother , Sue L. Pingree.
