A helicopter flew the driver, a 19-year-old Stockbridge native now living in Wyoming, to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, according to a news release from Unadilla Township Police Chief William Cook. The other passenger, a 22-year-old Munith man, went to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by ambulance.
Police are still investigating. Alcohol and speed might be factors in the crash, Cook wrote in the release.

Unadilla Police Chief Bill Cook, who is also a part-time sergeant for the Pinckney Police Department, said he likes the idea of a police authority because it would be able to improve service to residents.

Unadilla Police Chief William Cook said the crash occurred about 7:21 p.m. at the south end of Richmond Airfield, at 19935 Doyle, near a creek.
The Unadilla Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene, where residents tried to put out fire from the crash with buckets of water.Firefighters extinguished the fire with foam.
Cook said there were no witnesses to the crash at the airstrip, used primarily for glider planes and the Sandhill Soaring Club.Small planes occasionally land on the strip, he said.
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the plane and is investigating the cause of the crash.
The Livingston County Coroner's Office will make a positive identification of the pilot, Cook said.
Cook said this is the first fatal plane crash in Unadilla, which sits on the Livingston County-Ingham County border, north of Washtenaw County.
