William Leroy Brady
William Leroy Brady was born October 26, 1918 at Marion SD to William and Ida (Cremer) Brady.
Bill was in the Army 45 months, serving 35 months overseas, including Casablanca, the French Morocco and Italy. Bill was a clerk-typist with the 51st Station Hospital (MASH). He returned to Marion in November, 1945.
In 1946 Bill moved to Mitchell to work at the Daily Republic as a Linotype Operator. Bill married Ida Fischer on January 28, 1947 in Marion.
Bill was a sports enthusiast. As a young man, he played organized baseball. Later, he enjoyed hunting, dancing, bowling, and attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Ida; his four sons: William of Rapid City, SD, Dennis of Charleston WV, Richard (Jane) of Rapid City, SD, Donald of Brookings, SD; two daughters: Ann (Dwight) Scott and Mary (Ron) Schaefer, both of Mitchell; his 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren: Christopher Schaefer (wife Jamie, children Maggie and Christian); Dr. Kathryn Fox; Karen Brown (son Blake); Joseph Brady; Kristin Brady (fiance Daren Nattress, sons Trinity and Knox); Samantha Schaefer (children William and Lydia); Joseph Fox (wife Amity, son Noah and baby daughter due in August); Emily Brady Church (husband Tim); Kimberly Schaefer (daughter Andrea); Kate Filut (husband Brett); Andrew Scott; Jonathon Schaefer; Christina Scott.
During his final weeks and months, Bill was greatly comforted by the many friends, relatives, and family members who came to visit him and Ida. The surprise visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren touched him immensely and were his best medicine.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, one infant sister, and one brother.
Bill was certainly a good man, good husband, father and grandfather.
