is a legend at Havelock High School
," Murphy said.
I think the world of Wilbur
.We're good friends." Sasser, who will continue to teach driver's education at Havelock, admitted that he'll miss the responsibility, but also said that he understood Murphy's decision.
"I want the absolute best for the Havelock athletic program, and if the people in charge think it'll be a little bit better without me, then, hey, that's the way it needs to be," Sasser
said. Sasser has been the athletic director for the past eight years. He
also coached the football team for 25 years, compiling a 207-76-3 record. Sturm and Sasser have been friends since Sturm began his coaching career at Havelock, with Sturm noting that it's hard to take over Sasser's old position.
"I've known coach Sasser
since 1980," Sturm said.
"We have been friends an awful long time and I know in my heart that (Sturm) didn't do anything to make this happen," Sasser
was surprised by the news, but the biggest challenge for him is that he
won't be directly involved with athletics.
"You'll also miss the relationships with the other coaches," Sasser
said."That's going to be the hardest part for me, the fact that I don't have any realistic connection to the athletic department at Havelock High School
That doesn't mean that Sturm won't come to Sasser
"My heart's always going to be with Havelock athletics, and I'm always going to wish the best for it," Sasser
