Goldtooth said Wayne Shields, the founder and chief creative director of PLITZS Fashion Marketing, had planned to attend the event and select an emerging Native designer to take part in Fashion Week, just as he had provided that opportunity to Goldtooth earlier this year.

It was through the buzz generated by Goldtooth's innovative fashion design at those shows that the 28-year-old San Juan County native came to the attention of Wayne Shields, the founder and chief creative director of PLITZS Fashion Marketing, a New York-based company that recruits emerging designers and positions them to sell their work to New York buyers.
One day in October, Goldtooth found a message from Shields on his Facebook page, asking him to give a call. He did, and Shields told Goldtooth how much he enjoyed his work. The two chatted about Goldtooth's upbringing on the Navajo Reservation and his fashion design philosophy, then Shields extended an invitation. Aspiring fashion designers usually are required to submit an application and go through an extensive approval process in order to be allowed to participate in the PLITZS Fashion Week show, but Shields found Goldtooth's work - and story - so compelling he was willing to waive that. Would Goldtooth be interested in participating?

On the mainstream commercial level, New York Fashion Week can be monolithic in regard to racial makeup and certain nationalities, said PLITZS Founder and Chief Creative Director Wayne Shields.
PLITZS counteracts that by presenting a wide diversity of designers and models. Guy-Goldtooth will be the second Native American designer to ever participate in the show. Shields learned of Guy-Goldtooth through Chenaults mother, Sherrie Chenault. (Sherrie and Kyler have traveled several times to New York from their home in Farmington, so that Kyler, 15, can take modeling classes at PLITZS.) Shields was captivated by Guy-Goldtooths designs as well as his life story and ushered him through PLITZS vetting process to get him into the upcoming show.
