Wayne L. Laufenberg Jr.
DONATUS, Iowa -- Wayne L. Laufenberg Jr., 56, of 308 Oak Court, Saint Donatus, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at home, surrounded by his family and friends.
Wayne served in the Army from 1972 to 1974, and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Machinist Local 1238 of Dubuque for over 30 years.
was a business representative for the Machinist Local 1238 for the past 16 years, serving and working to improve wages and benefits for his
fellow union brothers and sisters.
Wayne also was involved as a business representative for the Machinists Union District 6, president of the Dubuque Labor Temple Building Corporation, vice president of Dubuque Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, vice president of Midwest State Council of Machinists, vice president of Iowa State Council of Machinists, dele-gate to the Dubuque Metal Trades Council, past member of the Dubuque County Zoning Board of Adjustments, member of the United Way Board of Directors, a labor volunteer for the Salvation Army Bell Ringers for Christmas, and he was a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 2008.
Wayne's zest and love for life was evident by his
focus and dedication to helping his
family, friends and co-workers.
participated in the annual Labor Day Parade in Dubuque, and was vital in coordinating the annual Hawgs for Dogs Benefit Ride.
also enjoyed riding his
Harley, camping with friends and family, spending time with his
grandchildren, hunting, the Packers, Hawkeyes and NASCAR.
Surviving are his wife, Debbie; sons, Corey (Nichole Jepsen) Laufenberg
, of Barneveld, Wis., and Jason Laufenberg, of Maquoketa; a daughter, Kara Laufenberg, of Dyersville; three grandchildren, Brayden, Kior and Kalysa; brothers, Chris (Mary) Laufenberg and Mark Laufenberg, both of Dubuque; a sister, Sue (Mark Roth) Jentz, of Dubuque; father- and mother-in-law, Dale and Sharron Thul, of Dubuque; brothers-in-law, Danny Thul, Dennis Thul and Donnie (Staci) Thul, all of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Kathy (Brian) Schwager, of Dubuque; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sassy.
According to IAM District 6 Business Representative Wayne Laufenberg, the new 3-year contract includes a substantial wage increase of over 12% and IAM Pension increases in all three years of the agreement.
