At its February 10th meeting, the board members unanimously selected Dr. Wayne Burke
as its superintendent-elect beginning March 1, 2014.
In addition, the board approved Dr. Burke to become superintendent, following Dr. Bart Goering's official retirement date of June 30, 2015.
"As board members, we strongly believe that Dr. Burke
is a great fit for both the characteristics desired by our stakeholders in the district and the communities that we serve as well as for the culture of our district," said Anderson.
"We are delighted to announce Dr. Burke
as the district's next superintendent and look forward to a long partnership with him, as he builds on Dr. Goering's strong legacy."
Dr. Burke who is currently the Spring Hill School District's assistant superintendent will be focused on enhancing his knowledge of the superintendent's position, shadowing Dr. Goering, and ensuring a smooth transition.
On July 1, 2015, Dr. Burke
will move into the superintendent's position.
Beginning in 1997, Dr. Burke was the assistant high school principal and activities director of Spring Hill High School for four years and principal for another five years.
Leaving the Spring Hill School District in 2006, he served as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in the Derby School District in Derby, Kan., for three years.
He returned to the Spring Hill School District in 2009 to serve in his current position for the last five years.
Dr. Burke has his doctorate of education from the University of Kansas, a master's degree in education administration from Emporia State University and a bachelor's degree in business education from Kansas State University.
He also is a member of numerous national and state level professional organizations as well as local community groups.
