WALTER J. ARMBRUSTER is president of the Farm Foundation, Oak Brook, Illinois.As chief executive officer of the non-profit Farm Foundation, he works as a catalyst, facilitator and stimulator of research, education and dialogue on private sector and public policy issues related to agriculture and rural communities.Dr. Armbruster has served as author or editor on a number of agricultural and food marketing research, education and policy publications and provided leadership to organize institutions which continue to stimulate work in these areas.His
professional agricultural economics focus has been on food and agricultural marketing efficiency, marketing institutions, government programs and marketing policy issues. Armbruster joined Farm Foundation in 1978 and became president in 1991.He previously worked in the U.S. Department of Agriculture on agricultural and food marketing efficiency, institutions and policy issues.
The Indiana native received B.S. and M.S. degrees in agricultural economics from Purdue University
and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Oregon State university
. Dr. Armbruster is secretary-treasurer of the International Association of Agricultural Economists, chairman of the National Farm-City Council, and member of the Executive Committee of the National Policy Association's Food & Agriculture Committee.He
recently completed terms as president of the American Agricultural Economics Association
