"Once construction is finished, the Financial Tower will offer around 100,000sq.m of office space to meet the rapidly growing demand for space in the city," said Vu Quang Hoi, the president of Bitexco, Binh Minh Import-Export Company.
The building should be completed in 30 months, a relatively short time, as the use of steel, glass, and advanced technologies will speed up the process, according to Hoi
.A similar construction made from steel and concrete could take five years to complete, he
said the tower's design was derived from the shape of country's lotus flower, and he
expected the building to become a national landmark, like the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony yesterday, Le Thanh Hai, Chairman of the HCM City's People's Committee
, said the tower was the largest-ever investment by a private Vietnamese company. He
also noted that Bitexco
supplied excellent preparations for the project, which won support from households on the site and related administrative organisations.
