The opening of school ran smoothly from a food standpoint because of their hard work, said Vivian Hamilton, Tulare Joint Union High School District business manager.

"Western has two new serving carts close to where the new portables are," Hamilton said."That makes four serving locations on the west side of the campus that are close to new buildings.Kids don't have to walk as far for lunch, but the staff worked very hard to make things run smoothly."
Tulare Western has 15 serving carts.
Tulare Union High School has eight serving carts, Hamilton said.

There could be more than one reason for the lack of community participation, said Vivian Hamilton, Tulare Joint Union High School District business manager.

"Most people are not numbers people, so they may feel a little intimidated by the budget," Hamilton said.
Their voices can make a difference, Hamilton said.
A little more than 6 percent of the high school district's budget is spent on text books, for example.More than 7 percent of the elementary school district's budget is spent on textbooks.
A parent or concerned resident could look at the budget, decide not enough money is allocated for textbooks and present an opinion to the board.
The board will consider their input.Presenting sound rationale could move the board to ask for adjustments in the budget, Hamilton said.
Those interested in the high school district budget can make an appointment with Hamilton, or ask for a personal copy of the budget.
If parents are skeptical about how the money is being spent, they are encouraged to take a look at the budget, Hamilton said.

The funding of the third high school comes from just less than $2.2 million in developer fees, some 50-50 school building money from the state and $45 million in bond money, said Vivian Hamilton, Tulare Joint Union business director.
"Developer fee money is very important to a school district," Hamilton said.
