Dr. Kokich is a Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Washington in Seattle. He also maintains a private orthodontic practice in Tacoma, Washington.
He has published 18 book chapters, 78 scientific articles, and 48 review articles. He has given over 750 presentations throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia.
He was awarded the Sicher Research Award by the American Association of Orthodontists, and has also received the Strang Award (1994), the Schluger Award (2000), the ICO Award (2001) the Dewel Award (2002), the AAED President's Award for Teaching Excellence (2004), the 2005 Association Trends Bronze Award for Education Programs, and the 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Washington School of Dentistry.
He has served as President of both the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics.

Vincent Kokich, a UW School of Dentistry alumnus and affiliate professor of orthodontics, passed away July 24 due to a heart attack. He was 68.
Although he had retired from his Tacoma practice several years ago, Kokich had been preparing to rejoin the orthodontics faculty at the UW clinic.
Kokich was involved at the school for nearly 30 years. His contributions include advocating for interdisciplinary dentistry, sustaining the UW's reputation as a leader in orthodontics education, and establishing the Kokich/Shapiro Endowed Scholar Fund to bring renowned visiting scholars to the school.
Kokich was also Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics and an active presenter and researcher.
A funeral mass for Kokich was held July 30 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish in Tacoma.

Kokich, DDS, MSD, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO) by the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). Dr. Kokich will succeed current editor David L. Turpin, DDS, MSD, who will retire in December 2011.
Dr. Kokich has experience with a number of domestic and international professional journals. He has been associate editor of the AJO-DO since 1999 and served in a similar role for other publications. Dr. Kokich sat on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Dental Association, the British Journal of Orthodontics and the Australian Orthodontic Journal, among others.
Dr. Kokich has lectured at AAO Annual Sessions, giving lectures such as the John Valentine Mershon Lecture, the Jacob A. Salzmann Lecture and the Edward Hartley Angle Lecture. To date, Dr. Kokich has given 40 named lectures. More than 20 book chapters have been authored by Dr. Kokich. He has written or contributed to 100 scientific articles published in the U.S. and abroad. He has given hundreds of scientific presentations since 1975 to local, regional, national and international dental and orthodontic organizations and study clubs.
Dr. Kokich graduated from the University of Washington's dental and orthodontic programs. He has been on the faculty of the University of Washington since 1974 and has maintained a private orthodontic practice as well.
Dr. Kokich is a member of many organizations, including the AAO, the American Association of University Professors, the American Cleft Palate Association, the American Dental Association and the International Association of Dental Research. He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has honorary memberships in the British Orthodontic Society, the Polish Orthodontic Society, the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists, the World Federation of Orthodontists and the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontists.

The worldwide orthodontic community lost an icon this week with the sudden passing of Dr. Vince G. Kokich. A clinician, educator and author, Dr. Kokich influenced a generation of orthodontic professionals and will be missed by colleagues and patients for years to come.
Dr. Kokich served as a Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Washington, where he published 21 book chapters, 97 scientific articles, and 48 review articles. He has given over 900 presentations throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia, and has lectured to the Orthodontic Societies in over 50 different countries. In recent years he served as Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics, in which he wrote a monthly editorial that inspired practitioners throughout the world.
Dr. Kokich retired from private practice in 2010, which he shared with his son, Dr. Vincent O. Kokich Jr., in Tacoma, Washington. He continued to serve as editor, associate editor, and a member of the editorial advisory boards of several journals. He has served as President of both the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics.
