Father Vincent R. Bommarito, pastor of St. Ambrose Parish and moderator of the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Committee, has been asked to give the closing prayer at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, in Philadelphia.

planning committee invited me," Father Bommarito
"This is not an endorsement, either by the Church or myself," Father Bommarito
"Traditionally the party conventions begin and end with prayer.
I will be leading people in prayer and thanksgiving for the blessing we have in this country, and petitioning the Lord for graces so that we promote life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
pointed out that the Church has traditionally influenced issues affecting human rights.
"We have a right to influence both political parties on critical life issues.
This falls under the faithful citizenship' described in the bishops' document."
The moderator of the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Com-mittee for more than five years, Father Bommarito said, "We as Catholics have to be involved in our country's issues.
