VICTOR NORIEGA & GUST BURNS
"2 Trios" is a recording project featuring pianists Victor Noriega and Gust Burns leading two separate ensembles with the same backing rhythm section of bassist Jeff Johnson and drummer/percussionist Greg Campbell.
and Gust will share the details of the unique process that brought this recording project together, and will also delve into the issues which were integral to "2 Trios"; spontaneity, preparation, synergy, the importance of contrast, and capturing pure improvisation.
Victor Noriega is an award-winning pianist, composer and arranger.
three albums of original compositions and arrangements -- Stone's Throw (2004), Alay (2006), and Fenceless (2008) -- each recorded with his
trio, earned critical acclaim, and Noriega
was honored with three Golden Ear awards (2005 Emerging Artist of the Year, 2006 Instrumentalist of the Year, and 2006 Album of the Year for Alay) by Earshot Jazz, recognizing the best of the Pacific Northwest jazz scene.
Noriega has been a featured artist in music festivals world-wide including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Earshot Jazz Festival, the Bumbershoot Festival, the Filipino-American Jazz Festival, and the Philippine International Jazz Festival, and has performed in premier music and jazz venues in North America and other parts of the world.
A versatile player, Victor
currently works on a diverse set of projects and collaborates with artists from a wide range of musical backgrounds.

Kababayan"; Abe Lagrimas, Jr., Hawaii-based ukelele master and last year's surprise hit; Charmaine Clamor, the first Filipina jazz vocalist to find success on American jazz radio; Victor Noriega, the Seattle-based pianist, who received the Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award for Emerging Artist of 2005; Julius Tolentino, New York-based saxophone player whose debut album (2005) received heavy airplay all across America and at a young age played with musical giants such as Natalie Cole, Marlena Shaw, Vanessa Rubin, Kevin Mahogany, among others; and Mon David, the celebrated Philippine-based vocalist, winner of the 2006 London International Vocal Jazz Competition and 2006 Awit Award Winner for Best Jazz Recording.
