,When I went to the North Carolina House of Representatives, Vicky ran the business,, he said.He said the two of them have been partners, not just in marriage but in business, politics and community service.,She,s had a lot to do with everything I,ve done in life,, he said.Hunt doesn,t consider himself particularly active in politics or public life at this point in his career. He still gets a lot of calls from folks looking for advice on where to go with a question or problem, and he often knows enough about the system to offer a suggestion.,It,s really a matter of knowing where to go,, he said. ,If I can help somebody, I do.,
The former governor called Vicky Hunt a ,live wire and a dynamic spirit, who is a big factor in what Sam Hunt has been able to achieve.
HUNT, BORN IN Burlington in 1941, graduated from Williams High School and East Carolina University. After college, he served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969, going to Korea and achieving the rank of first lieutenant.Hunt was impressed by the Army,s organizational skills, and thought the Army,s way of doing things showed common sense. As an example, he mentions the Army as the only organization that ever asked to see his diploma as proof he had graduated.,I almost stayed in the Army for a career,, he said.Back in Burlington, he went into business with his father in 1971.,He and I had always wanted to be in business together,, Hunt said.Hunt describes his father in some of the same ways he describes his wife: Both, he said, had more flair for the human side of politics and business than he does.,My dad was a great person; he had such as great personality,, he said. ,Everybody liked him.,Hunt,s father died in 1998.One of the things that pleases Hunt is that his father lived to see part of the interstate named for his son.His mother, Mildred, died the year before Hunt received the honor.Hunt, whose full name is Rector Samuel Hunt III, named his son Rector Samuel Hunt IV.
Vicky Hunt is president and Sam Hunt IV is chief operating officer.
