Vickie Wynn, the Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences in Marshall County, said the Extension Agency has wide-reaching impact on residents.
"In addition to being advisor to 125 Extension Homemakers, I am responsible for the programming that addresses the needs of Marshall County citizens," said Wynn. "Other programs we are involved with are Plate it Up!--Kentucky Proud which promotes locally grown foods with information to assist with recipes and preparation of these foods. Managing in Tough Times is another program that focuses on families' needs for a spending plan and making resources go further," she said.
?As an FCS agent, Wynn also serves on the Marshall County Arts Commission advisory board, as well as a co-chair of the Children's Art Center building committee. This partnership allows her to share Extension resources with the community in meeting needs of families that relate to such things as after-school programming and enrichment activities such as summer camps. The Extension office also partners with the Chamber of Commerce and Marshall County Tourism to promote local events and activities.
When asked how the Cooperative Extension Services have changed over the years, Wynn said "Program needs for families have been relatively consistent over time.

"Construction is moving right along," Vicki Wynn, MCAC public relations director said.
"We've poured the foundation and the steel is coming up. We're excited to see the first sign of progress above the ground."
Wynn said the pace will increase with the foundation and frame in place.
The next step will be placement of exterior walls. She described the exterior as a blend of brick and steel and the building will have a metal roof.
"So far, the construction process has been very smooth," Wynn said. "Site preparation went well, and we have not encountered anything unexpected. We're on schedule at this point."
The building received a $500,000 community development block grant to fund a portion of construction. One stipulation of the grant was the building needed to open by July 1. Wynn expects the MCAC will meet that target.
Wynn said the next fund raiser will be a silent auction at the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.
"Right now, we are working on a schedule of events for fall when we open the new building," Wynn said.

According to Vicki Wynn, Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, you can use medium sized pots for most patio gardens, about 12 inches in diameter. Wynn said the most important aspect of container gardening is selecting the proper sized container so the watering process will be consistent and will allow the plants to grow as they should.Specific sizes are listed in the free University of Kentucky vegetable growing guide, available at the extension office.
"It's like a prescription for your garden," Wynn laughed.
