National Artists Carlos V. Francisco and Vicente Manansala
were both her
contemporaries and good friends.She later studied Design at the University of Michigan, and for the rest of her life became one of the most prolific visual artists in the country.Her most important achievement is founding the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) in 1948.
Through this organization, she
resurrected a Philippine arts scene devastated by the Second World War.She served as the AAP's president for four consecutive decades and was later declared president emeritus.
