Writer and director Vic Bignell said that he had been writing pantomimes since he was in the Navy, fifty years ago. However, he did manage to add just a few new jokes for this production, which starred Anwen Shaw-Penman as the hero of the piece.Vic appeared as the evil Abanazar, and he was duly and enthusiastically booed at every opportunity by an audience full of kids of all ages. And even Vic's old jokes got the occasional laugh!

Although producer Vic Bignell reminded us that "there is no "I" in team", the night belonged, beyond any doubt, to dancing queen Chloë Powell, who played the has-been chorus line girl Mavis and in real life also tutored and choreographed the Youth Theatre cast single-handedly.This was an amazing achievement for a thirteen year-old, who surely has much more to look forward to as a performer.Vic commented that Chloë had made this show possible. It is also evident that the Youth Theatre's players have continued to develop their talents under Vic's guidance during the past two years.Vic Bignell
