Zimmerman, M.D., Vice President Veva H. Zimmerman, the oldest sister of Henry Hampton and Judi Hampton, followed in their father's footsteps by entering the medical profession. Dr. Zimmerman was a professor of clinical psychiatry at New York University, in addition to having a private practice. In 1981 she was appointed associate dean of the New York University School of Medicine, where she was the first black and the first woman to become dean at the school in its 140 year history. Veva Zimmerman is married to David Zimmerman, a science writer, and has two sons: Jacob Zimmerman, a computer programmer, and Tobias Zimmerman, an attorney.
