Veronica NickersonHospital Administrator

Veronica NickersonFilling Davis' position on an interim basis is Veronica Nickerson. Nickerson, 48, who has lived in Delta for 13 years, recently returned from the United Kingdom where she was involved with a program to develop medical diagnostic centres.Prior to that she also served as a hospital administrator in Abu Dhabi on behalf of Inter Health Canada. She also performed some consultancy work for the Fraser Health Authority before being picked to take the job in Delta. Acknowledging that while changes to B.C.s health care can be difficult on all those who rely on it, Nickerson said efficiencies have to be found in order to sustain the system. Nickerson said she supported the idea that larger, centralized hospitals serve as centres for more complex procedures, and small, regional hospitals such as Delta's, offer increased numbers of day surgery. She added that other challenges facing Delta, as well as the rest of the health system, include addressing an aging population of nurses that currently puts the average age at 47.
