Winsloe's Veronica Keefe put in a very good showing at the Brazil Cup in Rio de Janeiro this past week-end, finishing in 4th place with a 2-2 record.
Representing Canada and competing in the 75kg category, Keefe, who currently resides in Montreal and competes for Concordia University, was beaten in her first bout by Rino Abe of Japan, 11-7, before defeating two Brazilian athletes, Keila Silva (10-0), and Aline Ferrerira (6-3). In her final bout, Keefe was beaten by Canadian teammate and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Erica Wiebe, 9-0.

In the 72kg Veronica Keefe wrestling for the Montreal Wrestling Club finished the day 3-1 for a Bronze.

Three outstanding athletes who have gained both national and international honours have been named as finalists for senior female athlete of the year: Emily Cameron (rowing), Veronica Keefe (wrestling) and Heather Moyse (rugby and bobsleigh). Veronica Keefe Winsloe's Veronica Keefe also has big ambitions, and she secured two international wrestling medals in 2013, winning at the Francophone Games in Nice, and the Commonwealth championship in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was a wonderful year for Keefe, who also secured wins at Brock, Western, Concordia (winning in two different weight classes) and McMaster on the varsity circuit, as well as a gold medal at the Canada Cup. At the Canadian championships, Keefe won a bronze medal, and she is well placed for even more success in a very competitive 72-kilogram division. To round off her great season, she recently took home Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) gold with Concordia University.
