But first, local residents will have to suffer through a hot, humid conclusion to the work week, said Vanessa Richards, WETM Channel 18 News meteorologist.
"We have a cold front that's pretty much on our doorstep, but it's taking its sweet time getting here," Richards
"So it'll still be very humid (today), and we'll be on the cusp of 90 degrees."
By the afternoon and evening, however, rain showers and thunderstorms will rumble through the area, and will continue through Saturday morning.
After the storms blow through, temperatures will fall and the humidity will drop, Richards
"Saturday will be the real difference," she
"We're talking low 80s, so it will feel significantly better."
Sunday should be fairly pleasant as well, with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the mid-80s, Richards
Thursday marked the fifth day in a row of temperatures above 90 degrees.
