Valerie Elliott
...
Valerie Elliott, MGDC, has a life-long passion for protecting the environment which began in her late teens with the launch of her first book on energy conservation (1978).
She has more recently launched and directed the Victoria Values-based Business Network, conceived and coordinated the 2001 DesignCares Travelling Forum and Exhibit that has since traveled the globe and was one of 70 appointees to the BC Government providing advice on how to engage individuals to participate in climate action initiatives. She wrote the GDC Sustainability Principles for governance and joins the AIGA, RGD, Icograda, BDG and other design organisations in developing dialogue on how to evolve our practices.
Valerie speaks regularly on our collective environmental responsibility to school aged children, professional communicators, university students and to business. Her company, iD2 Communications helps businesses and not for profit organisations to recognise the value of environmental innovation in business positioning and purchases carbon offset credits to offset her personal and business impacts.
Elliott is the National Sustainability Committee Chair for the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), Managing and Creative Director of Victoria-based iD2 Communications Inc, a certified public relations practitioner, a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society and founding member of the Victoria Chapter of the Ethics Practitioners Assoc. of Canada
While not working, Elliott can be found rescuing native plants from development sites and slapping mud onto the walls of her 1912 home.

Spoke with Valerie Elliott, who is leading the GDC initiative. Bio below.

She indicated that while not much has gone on to date that the GDC was in a similar start up phase as the R.G.D. and that any collaboration would be both welcomed and in both Association's interest. In the spirit of co-operation she volunteered that she would share a copy of a questionnaire that the GDC was preparing as a start to determine the level of interest in the membership.
...
Valerie Elliott has had a life-long passion for the environment that began at age 17 with the design and production of an elementary school book on transportation and energy conservation for Transport 2000.
Spanning several decades her work includes establishing the first environmental committee for Rogers Cable TV (1988); launching the Victoria Values-based Business Network (2005); and spearheading the first GDC DesignCares Forum and Exhibit (2001). She recently became the first chair of the GDC National Sustainability Committee. She's not satisfied that we've done enough to help change behaviours and help raise awareness that a triple bottom line model is possible and necessary. Since 2000 Elliott has spoken about our collective responsibility towards the environment and each other at elementary schools; to professional communicators; university students; and businesses organizations. Elliott is President of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada-Vancouver Island Chapter; Managing and Creative Director of Victoria-based iD2 Communications Inc. (a communications firm specializing in solutions for sustainable communities); is a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society; and is a founding member of the Ethics Practitioners Assoc. of Canada, Victoria Chapter.
