Traikov drew the ire of Valentin Zlatev, general director of Lukoil Bulgaria, the fuel distribution arm of the Russian oil giant in Bulgaria, which has the largest market share, estimated at about 30 per cent, of the fuel retail trade and dominates the wholesale segment.
Lukoil also owns Bulgaria's sole operating oil refinery, Neftochim in Bourgas, and the two companies are the largest in terms of sales figures in the country.
Following the first round of meetings between Government, transport companies and distributors a week earlier, Traikov criticised Lukoil Bulgaria
for lack of transparency and not disclosing the method it used to decide its prices.
retaliated saying that the Neftochim refinery was operating at a loss and unleashed a public relations campaign against Traikov in the media, finding a defender in Borissov.
